Wren With A Pen Publishing Code of Ethics
This code of ethics was the signature assignment for my Media Ethics course. I wrote the code of ethics for my publishing imprint, Wren With A Pen Publishing, and doing so required me to think about who I wanted to be as a writer. When a writer publishes something, they are sending a message for the entire world to read, and media messages hold a surprising degree of power over their audiences. For this reason, writers have an ethical responsibility to consider what their media messages say before publishing them. Writing this code of ethics was extremely valuable to me as a writer because it not only helped me think about my own moral code, but it also helped me see what I wanted to accomplish as a writer. In other words, it gave me a professional vision of what I want to accomplish as a writer: To tear down the walls between “us” and “them.”
